Pok-it was written by Evelyn Glennie for the 1994 Young Musician of the Year Percussion Masterclass televised by the BBC. During a visit to Bali Evelyn was very much influenced by the virtuosic use of ensemble voice techniques in Balinese music. At an extraordinarily high speed and with such precision they seemed to be creating a ‘pok-it’ sound with their voices, hence the title of this piece.
