Paavo Järvi is known for having championed many works by contemporary Estonian composers such as Arvo Pärt, Lepo Sumera and Eduard Tubin. After his recent critically acclaimed Arvo Pärt recordings on Virgin Classics he now returns to another Estonian composer, Erkki-Sven Tüür whose works he often directs in international venues. Paavo Järvi recorded Tüür's "Insula Deserta" & Homage to Sibelius on the label several years ago.
Symphony no. 4, 'Magma', is dedicated to Scottish virtuoso percussionist Evelyn Glennie, who tours extensively in Europe and the USA and performs with an extraordinarily wide variety of orchestras and contemporary musicians.
